40th priestly ordination of Fr Mike Brillantes
Today, November 30, 2023 marks the 40th priestly ordination of Fr Mike Brillantes. On this occasion, we launch the website of Fr Mike’s Memorial Arts Center to celebrate and commemorate the auspicious event.
It has been six months since the music and arts seminar training sponsored by the Fr Mike’s Memorial Arts Center Inc (FMMACI) of young elementary and high school students in Tayum. The thirty four (34) trainees under the mentorship of local artist, -Evelyn Burton Danguilit, gained much from their experience. They make good use of their learning in arts in making impressive art works in their school projects. One parent expressed awe and amazement as she expressed her joy and gratitude in the vernacular. She said “ Ay Maam, naimpress nak talaga tay improvement na ayan output na. Diak pay koma mamati nga isuna nangaramid no diak actual nga nabuya”
Meanwhile the 25 students who trained in bamboo flute playing under the mentorship of Mr and Mrs Gilbert Olivares, use their learned skills to animate school programs with their inspiring music. Sir Stanley Millare, principal of one elementary school in the municipality Tayum who also trained in flute playing went on to organize bamboo flutists in his school. Together with his daughter, also trained in Arts and Music, they create beautiful bamboo flute pieces using local songs.
The students who trained in guitar playing also use their skills at masses and school programs under the instruction of local musician, Rene Princena.
The trainees did not only learn the skill of doing Arts or making Music, they also developed discipline and trust in their own capacity. For these the trainees’parents are very thankful to the sponsors of the opportunity for honing their children’s talents.
The FMMAC sponsors hope to expand the seminar trainings to other areas of Music and Arts and engage the youth in meaningful and enjoyable learning. They enliven the dream of the late Fr. Mike Brillantes to inspire the youth to discover, develop and make good use of their talents for the benefit of the community and for God’s service
